I'd suggest Xochimilco as well. However the location on El Camino is under different ownership now. (drove by there on Monday and noticed)

They do have another restaurant on Auburn Blvd near Madison.

It is tasty stuff.

In Sacramento, I'm not certain that Miguel's has live music. You might want to call ahead.

Here is one that does have live mariachi music:

Camino Real Restaurant featuring Mariachi Los Gallos

Director Email: figuerom@mother.com - Miguel Figueroa

Mariachi Los Gallos (916) 731-7238

y Mariachi Femenil Las Aguilas de Sacramento

2700 Broadway, Sacramento, CA 95817

Sundays 6-10pm; (916) 427-2560

It sounds like a great plan, have fun and I hope the dinner goes well!

Xochimilco has a live mariachi band on Friday nights and I hear that the food is authentic and delicious. I have been wanting to go there myself for quite some time . There are 2 locations, here is 1 of them 1901 El Camino Ave Sac, 95815 Hope this helps.

I've eaten ate Vallejo's at 1100 O street in downtown Sacramento several times and the food is outstanding. Two of the three times I was there, there was this great family of mariachi performers. It was a father and mother and two kids. They were very good as was the food.
